What does CFS mean on Instagram?

CFS meaning in text is Close Friends Stories. CF stands for Close Friends. CFS was rolled out in 2018 by Instagram as a move towards empowering users to control their privacy in a better manner. You don’t always want to share content with everyone in your followers' list, right? It may be too personal or sensitive to you as an individual, and you feel uncomfortable with everyone seeing it except your close friends.

So, if you go through your followers’ list and manually pick the ones you want to skip from viewing your Stories is a tedious and exhausting job. You’ll burn out yourself, right? There’s some good news for you. The Close Friends (CF) feature allows you to share personal content with only those who you trust or simply like. Close Friend Stories or CFS is an extension of this privacy feature. These are stories that you share only with the people on your Close Friends list.

The next section will explain how you can create a CFS on the app.

How do you create a CF on Instagram?

Now that you’ve got an understanding of what CFS is, it’s time to learn how to create one for your account.

Here’s the step-by-step process;

  • Open the Instagram app,
  • Log in to your account (if you’re not already),
  • Tap on your profile icon on the bottom right corner of the screen,
  • Now, tap on the burger menu (three parallel lines icon) in the top-right corner,
  • Select the “Close Friends” tab,
  • Choose which friends you want to add to your Close Friends list,
  • Here you go. You now have your list of trusted people you can share personal or valuable stuff.

How do you make a CFS on Instagram?

Here are some easy steps on how to make a CFS (Close Friends Stories) on Instagram;

  3. Tap on the “+” sign at the bottom of the screen,
  4. Select “Story” at the bottom,

Congratulations! You’ve just shared your Story with your close friends.

How can you tell if someone is CFS on Instagram?

If someone has included you in their Close Friends list, you will receive their CFS Stories. The ring around those Stories will be green and once you tap on them, you will see a green bar labeled “Close Friends” on your screen. If they don’t share their CFS Stories with the CF list, you won’t be able to know whether you’re on their CF list or not.

How to use CFS for your business?

If you’re using Instagram to market and grow your brand or business, then CFS can be a great asset. You can use it to build and nurture your relationships with the leads and existing customers.

There are many ways you can use CFS to grow your business.

  • As a business owner, it’s always a smart idea to overdeliver to your leads and potential customers. Depending on their awareness stage, you can customize your Stories to educate, intrigue, and persuade them to buy your products.
  • Also, you can teach how to use a specific product your customers are facing difficulty with. Or there might be a feature they don’t know about. You can show them what it is and how it can be handy for them.
  • Close Friends Stories or CFS can be handy to generate leads effortlessly. You can simply add people, who have engaged with your content, to your CF list and tease them with a freebie in a Story and take them to your lead capture page and grow your email list.

  • You can also share new promotions or tell your audience or existing customers about a new product launch. This works great to presell your followers, especially your existing customers - since they’ve already used your products and are most likely to buy more.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Can people see who is on my close friend list?

The answer is no. No Instagram users or even the people on your Close Friends list will be able to see who’s in your CF list. Only you can see your CF list and who’s included in that. Everyone else on the app doesn’t know about that.

Can you go Live on Instagram on CFS?

No, you can’t go Live on Instagram CFS. But considering Instagram’s history of rolling out new and exciting features to the app, it can become to reality.

Can I see how many times someone saw my close friend story?

No, you can’t know how many times someone in your CF list saw your CF Story. Whenever a close friend sees your CF Story, their profile image appears above the “seen by” text at the bottom of your story. To view this, you can open your Story and see the profile images of the users who have seen your CF Stories along with the number (reflecting the total number of people who have viewed your Close Friend Stories).

Can you remove yourself from someone’s Instagram CFS?

Unfortunately, there’s no option available as of now to remove yourself from someone’s CFS. If you’re not interested in receiving CF Stories from a user, you can simply block them or just unfollow them. If you want to go to that extent, then you can do something less offensive. You can simply tap on the Story you want to remove and select “Mute Story”. You’ll see their Stories in your Stories feed no more.
